Labyrinth spider: illustrated description
- The labyrinth spider thrives in dry, sunny environments, which is why it is so common in Provence.
- It is commonly found in low vegetation. The most striking feature is its large, intricate spider web, which forms a tunnel at the base and widens out like a funnel.
- The average length of a labyrinth spider can be up to 14 mm.
- The labyrinth spider is easily identified by the ‘fishbone’ pattern on the back of its abdomen.
This video was taken in Montbrun Les Bains in July 2024. It shows a labyrinth spider checking on an insect caught in its web.
