Pelagic species

A pelagic species lives offshore. It does not land on dry land, except to reproduce.
This applies to birds as well as fish, marine mammals, reptiles and invertebrates.
In Provence, we have the northern gannet, for example: it can only be observed at a distance, from the coast.
