Common kingfisher: illustrated description



- The common kingfisher can be found along small rivers where it nests in vertical walls (made of sand or soft soil).
- Height is around 16 cm (6.3 inch) and wingspan, around 25 cm (9.8 inch).
- It can live up to 15 years old.
- Females and males look pretty much the same (there are differences but not easy to notice).
- During the breeding season, the male would typically offer food to the female (fish)
- The common kingfisher is one of the top fishers (hence its name): its speed and accuracy are outstanding.
